Every so often a community organization gets the chance to show how many people stand behind it. For People Who Care, that moment arrived when the organization was named one of the top 200 finalists in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist® grant program, chosen from roughly 4,000 applicants. What happens next depends on neighbors, friends, and strangers willing to click a button, and this page is where we share that call to action along with the other news that matters to our community.
We Need Your Vote
Neighborhood Assist® is a grant program that invites the public to help decide which local causes deserve support. Of the thousands of organizations that applied, only 200 reached the finalist stage. From that group, the 100 causes that collect the most votes will each receive a $25,000 grant. Being a finalist is an honor, but it is the vote count that turns recognition into resources.
For People Who Care, a grant of that size would translate directly into helping more Neighbors who cannot drive because of physical limitations. Our mission is to help them stay independent in their own homes, and that work depends on volunteers, coordination, and steady community support. We are asking everyone who believes in that mission to rally behind us and, just as importantly, to pass the word along.
How to vote
- Follow the voting link provided in our announcement.
- Select People Who Care as the cause you are supporting.
- Come back every day. Voting is open from April 27 through May 6, and each person can vote up to ten times a day.
There is also a bonus tip: you can sign up for the Voting Text Reminder, which nudges you each day so that you register all ten of your votes. Busy schedules make it easy to forget, and a quick text can be the difference between one vote and ten.

Why Sharing Matters as Much as Voting
A single supporter can cast only so many votes, but a single supporter can also tell a coworker, a relative, a neighbor, or a book-club friend. Contests like this one are won through networks. If each person who reads this message persuades a few others to vote daily, the total grows far faster than any one household could manage.
So please share this announcement by email, in group chats, on social media, or simply over coffee. Ask colleagues, friends, and family to take a minute each day during the voting window. We cannot do this without our community behind us, and we mean that plainly. Every vote is a small act that adds up to real transportation, groceries, and companionship for someone who needs them.
We can't do this without our community behind us.
What Our Work Looks Like Day to Day
It helps to understand what a vote supports. Many older adults and people with disabilities live in their own homes and want to keep doing so. Yet when driving is no longer possible, ordinary errands become obstacles. A pharmacy pickup, a medical appointment, or a trip to the grocery store can suddenly require help from someone else.
People Who Care connects those Neighbors with volunteers who fill that gap. The goal is to improve access to healthcare, food, and other essentials. Just as valuable is what happens in between the errands: conversation, familiarity, and the sense that someone is paying attention. Loneliness and isolation are serious health concerns, and a friendly face at the door can ease both.

Because the organization depends on generosity, funding events and grants matter. They allow the work to continue and to reach people who might otherwise go without.
Volunteer Orientation Meetings
If hearing about this work makes you want to take part, the best first step is an orientation meeting. These sessions are held on the third Wednesday of each month. The times change from month to month, so it is wise to confirm before you plan your day.
Anyone intending to attend should contact our volunteer coordinator by phone at or by email at . The coordinator can tell you the time for the upcoming session and answer questions about what volunteering involves. You can also meet some of the people behind the organization on our Staff page.
Volunteering does not require special expertise. It asks for reliability, kindness, and a willingness to show up for someone who is counting on you. Orientation is a low-pressure way to learn how the process works and decide whether it suits your life.

Golf Tournament: Save the Date
Mark your calendar for October 4, 2022, when our golf tournament will take place at the Club at Prescott Lakes. Events like this combine a good day out with a worthwhile purpose, bringing together players, sponsors, and supporters who want to strengthen services for Neighbors in need. Details are not yet final, so please check back here for updates as the date approaches.
Whether you play regularly or have not held a club in years, tournaments are a friendly way to meet others who care about the community. We will post more information as it becomes available.
Press Releases and Staying Informed
A press release section is planned for this site, though it is still coming soon. Once it is live, it will gather official news about People Who Care in one place, which will be handy for local media, partners, and anyone who likes to follow developments closely.
In the meantime, you can subscribe to updates so that important news, including voting reminders and event details, reaches you directly. We are based at in Prescott, Arizona, and you can reach us at .
How You Can Help Right Now
There are several ways to be part of this, and none of them need to be large to matter.
- Vote daily during the voting window, up to ten times each day, and use the text reminder to keep on track.
- Share the message with colleagues, friends, and family so their votes count too.
- Donate if you are able. Your gift is an act of kindness that helps Neighbors reach healthcare, food, and essentials, and replaces isolation with connection.
- Volunteer by starting the application process and attending an orientation meeting.
Together, we can keep Neighbors independent, connected, and cared for. Thank you for being part of that effort.
