A Little History...
People Who Care is a grassroots community service organization that was founded
in 1992 to connect volunteers with neighbors who need some extra help with normal,
everyday activities in order to continue living independently in their homes. Initially,
communities of faith in the greater Prescott area provided a network of volunteer
and financial support that expanded each year to include civic organizations, local
charitable foundations, businesses and individual community members. People Who
Care is a not-for profit 501(c)(3) tax deductible organization and a participating
agency of the United Way of Yavapai County. No
government funding has been requested or received.
However, we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to welcome two new staff
members this summer. Sandy McMichen is joining the staff through the Northern Arizona
Council of Governments Senior Community Service Program (SCSEP). She has lived in
Chino Valley for five years and will be working as a Program Assistant with Barbara
McGirr in the Chino Valley office.
Stacy Raker will be joining us the end of July as an AmeriCorp VISTA worker (Volunteers
in Service to America). She will be working with People Who Care and Neighbor to
Neighbor helping us tell the story of volunteer caregiving to our community.
Our Faith In Action Connection
In 2001, we received a one time sustainability grant from The Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation (RW) Faith In Action Program joining a national network of volunteer
caregiving organizations across the county. When the RWJ Foundation moved on to
other important initiatives in July of 2008, we joined with other Faith In Action
organizations to form an national membership network of volunteer caregiving programs
across the country. To find a volunteer caregiving program in another area, go to
the Faith In Action national website and select "Find A Program".
